Green Friday: Geiz ist nicht geil! - NIKIN EU

Green Friday: Stinginess is not cool!

Especially around Black Friday, companies are luring people with extreme discounts and deals. We want to counteract this enormous incentive to buy and make people aware of the need to shop consciously. Yes, we also love clothes, fashion and shopping - but please do it with your head and heart. Sustainability is a process that we want to promote not just on “Green Friday” but as constantly as possible. And you can be #partofthemovement.

Plant twice as many trees

Instead of deals like “2 for 1”, we from November 25th to November 28th, 2022 will allow two trees per product sold plant. We want to double the positive impact on nature. There will be no additional discounts at NIKIN, but there will be a small “Green Friday” collection in which our fir tree logo will be supplemented by a second tree. The collection is made of durable and sustainable materials that are produced under fair conditions in Europe.

“Plant with purpose” instead of additional discounts

During “Green Friday” we support a tree planting project in the Dominican Republic. The aim is to revitalize deforested land, where we and our partner One Tree Planted would like to help plant and care for 1,275,000 trees. As part of the holistic “Plant With Purpose » - approach, the restoration of the forest also aims to achieve sociological improvements. Many local farmers should be included in the project in order to increase their awareness of the environment.

That's what the numbers say

So that you can imagine what impact doubling the number of trees can have on the environment, we present you with some calculation examples:

  • Oxygen: A small tree around 20 meters high produces around 10,000 liters of oxygen per day. That's enough for around five to ten people who need between 500 and 2,000 liters of oxygen per day. If you buy a NIKIN product on Green Friday, the two trees you plant could later produce oxygen for up to 20 people.

  • Dust filter: Trees are not considered the green lungs of cities for nothing, because they filter particles and dust from the air via leaves or needles. A tree filters up to 100 kilograms of dust from the air per year. Your two NIKIN trees together could filter up to 200 kilograms per year.

  • CO2 storage: How much CO2 a tree binds depends on how old the tree is, its wood density and its growth rate, but the soil quality, the climate and the water supply also play a role. A rough example: A beech tree in our latitudes binds around 12.5 kilograms of CO2. In order to absorb one ton of CO2, the beech tree would have to be 80 years old - or two trees together 40 years old.

  • Animals: Trees are home to various species of animals. In addition to various insects, woodpeckers, martens, dormouse, squirrels and bird species also live in the trees - the inhabitants of course differ depending on the country and climate zone. Researchers estimate that there are approximately as many animals per tree as the population of a medium-sized city. On Green Friday you can give a lot of animals a home with your trees.

Join “Green Friday”!

By the way, there are no additional costs for you when purchasing, even if twice as many trees are planted thanks to you. The sales price of our products remains the same, we simply donate twice as much money to our planting partner OneTreePlanted. Thanks to the TreeTracker you can see where “your” tree is planted at any time. #happygreenfriday!
